Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness has pledged that the government will assist with hurricane Melissa recovery efforts in Accompong St. Elizabeth and has noted that no community will be left behind.
Accompong is home to hundreds of maroons.
The community is among many which were severely affected by the hurricane on October 28.
Speaking during a tour of the area today, Dr. Holness said he was informed that approximately 80% of homes in Accompong sustained damage.
Dr. Holness said he will be assigning members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to assist with home repairs, ahead of the annual Accompong Maroon Festival on January 6, 2026.
