Dr Chang urges police to quickly apprehend perpetrators of drive by shooting in Montego Bay

The St. James police have been urged to do all that’s required to apprehend the perpetrators of the deadly drive by gun attack on a group of persons in Montego Bay yesterday.

Nine persons were shot, one fatally.

The deceased has been identified as 28 year old Exodus Dunkley of Flagstaff.

Reports are that about 5:43 p.m. the group was at a section of Hart Street, when a silver Axio motor car approached.

Further reports are that men aboard the vehicle opened gunfire at the group, and then escaped.

The wounded persons were taken to hospital, where Dunkley was pronounced dead and the 8 others were admitted for treatment.

In reacting to the incident, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang said he has advised the police to expend every effort to find and bring to justice the perpetrators of the incident.

Dr. Chang said he has taken note of reports indicating that the shooting is believed to have been an act of reprisal for the killing of a gangster’s relative last year.

The attackers were reportedly in pursuit of the alleged perpetrator, who is believed to frequent the area.

Dr. Chang noted that St. James has had a major reduction in murders and violent crimes so far this year, adding that violent criminals must not be allowed to re-occupy the space and drive fear into residents.

Speaking on Dr. Chang’s behalf, government senator Abka Fitz Henley said the minister has expressed confidence in the ability of the security forces to act on intelligence that will result in those who carried out the brazen attack being found and placed before the justice system.
