Dr. Andrew Holness to be sworn in as Jamaica’s Prime Minister today

Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Dr. Andrew Holness is to be sworn in as Jamaica’s Prime Minister today.

This follows the JLP’s victory in the September 3 General Election.

The party secured 35 seats while the People’s National Party won 28.

According to a media advisory, Dr. Holness will be sworn in by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen at King’s House at 4:00 P.M.

Today’s ceremony represents the fourth time Dr. Holness will be sworn in as Prime Minister after taking the oath of office in 2011, 2016 and 2020.

The members of his Cabinet will be sworn in at 2:00 P.M. tomorrow.

In the meantime, political commentator Linton Gordon is expressing hope that Dr. Holness will spread the message of unity during his swearing-in speech.

Mr. Gordon also wants the Prime Minister to make a commitment that his administration will ensure that all Jamaicans, regardless of political affiliation, will be treated equally.

Meanwhile, the police are advising motorists to expect delays along Hope Road, East Kings House Road, and the surrounding areas today due to the swearing-in ceremony.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience and to plan their routes accordingly.
