Distribution of cash grants under “Rebuild Jamaica” initiative being done in fair and transparent manner -Charles Jr
Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles Junior has sought to assure that his team is executing the distribution of cash grants under the “Rebuild Jamaica” initiative in a fair and transparent manner.
The initiative launched on August 5, supports citizens whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Beryl on July 3.
The cash grants range in value from $50,000 to $400,000.
However, there are recent reports that some residents of hard-hit Clarendon who are in dire need of the grants have been left out.
There are also claims that the cash distributions have favoured the “greedy and not the needy”.
Defending the Ministry’s execution of the national initiative, Mr. Charles Junior told IRIE FM News that all efforts are made to ensure that beneficiaries of the grants are those who need it the most.
He reminded that beneficiaries are offered support based on formal assessments of the level of damage to their homes.
The Minister is urging persons with concerns to contact him or the parish offices.
He also noted that steps are being taken to address issues that have hindered the distribution of grants to some people, including inaccuracies relating to Tax Registration Numbers (TRN).
