Dispute between JPS management and some of its workers regarding transition from contract to full time employees, now fully resolved
The dispute between the management of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) and some of its workers, regarding their transition from contract to full-time employees, is now fully resolved.
The National Workers Union (NWU) which represents the workers, had reported partial progress in the matter last week.
In an update yesterday, it noted that all outstanding matters have now been addressed.
The NWU had issued a notice of industrial action on JPS earlier this month, citing unrest among workers, due to the company’s delay in transitioning about 30 of them, from contract to permanent employee status.
The Labour Ministry had intervened and called the parties to a meeting.
That meeting led to a partial resolution.
NWU General Secretary, Granville Valentine says continued dialogue led to a positive outcome this week.
Mr. Valentine lamented that too many employees are being exploited under the guise of being contract workers.
