Despite a lack of support, former employee of a prominent hotel in Montego Bay St James, Matthew Rodney, staged a protest in the parish, this morning (July 4).
He first visited the Sam Sharp Square, then went to the main gate of the hotel, where he stood alone, highlighting reported instances of unfair treatment at more than one hotel where he had worked.
He is calling for union representation for hotel workers and says he will continue his protest to highlight the issues he has identified.
Rodney, who had placards with him, cited racism, classism and unfair contracts, among other issues.
Police later arrived on the scene and told him that he needed permission to protest.
He then left for the police station to get the permits.
