The National Works Agency (NWA) is warning citizens to take heed when it determines that a structure is “unsafe” and “unfit” for use by motorists or pedestrians.

The Craigmill Bridge #2 along the Buff Bay to White Hall main road in Portland partially collapsed last night.

The NWA says the bridge, which has been officially closed since 2018, gave way under the weight of a truck transporting stones.

NWA Communication and Customer Service Manager, Stephen Shaw says despite installing physical barriers and establishing a detour, persons still chose to use the bridge.

He explains that plans are already underway to erect a new bridge.

In a post on X this afternoon, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said the Public Investment Appraisal Branch is going through the final assessment for the award of an estimated $95 million contract for the replacement of the bridge.
