Descendants of former sugar workers in Trelawny receive letters of possession, bringing them closer to being formal landowners
Descendants of former agricultural workers in Wakefield, Trelawny are one step closer to becoming formal land owners.
This, as they were yesterday presented with letters of possession by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Portfolio Minister Floyd Green said the move was long overdue.
He added that sugar lands not being handed over to the rightful owners has been a long-standing issue in Jamaica.
He said the process has started to get persons in similar situations their letters of possession.
Mr Green added that he has spoken to the relevant authorities to ensure that those who received their letters of possession can soon receive titles for the lands.
Over 150 letters are to be handed out in the area.
