Dancehall takes over! Buju, Kartel, Beenie & more represent

It was an epic weekend for Dancehall and Reggae music! From the U.S. to the Caribbean, Jamaican entertainers were out in full force, proudly representing the culture on major stages.

In the U.S., Beenie Man returned to New York for the first time in 13 years, performing at the UBS Arena. Though the venue wasn’t filled to capacity, the Dancehall heavweight delivered a stellar set backed by the Ruff Cut band, leaving fans raving. He later took to Instagram to thank his supporters and team for the memorable night.

Bounty Killer, who is set to perform at the Barclays Center on July 5, congratulated Beenie on his performance. He also called for unity in Dancehall, urging fans not to compare Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel, noting they are from different generations. “When Beenie Man wins and Vybz Kartel wins, Dancehall wins,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masicka joined the Umbrella Festival in Florida, sharing the stage with Lalee and Majah Myjah, Bounty Killer’s son.

Also in Florida, the Best of the Best Festival brought together icons like Buju Banton, Beres Hammond, Romain Virgo, and Chronic Law. Despite the event’s success, organizers issued a statement distancing the festival from a shooting incident that happened outside the venue, clarifying that it had no ties to the event or its patrons.

Down in Guyana, Vybz Kartel and friends caused a frenzy. For the first time since relocating to the U.S., Kartel shared the stage with Shawn Storm. This move ultimate silenced critics who questioned Shawn Storm’s absence from Kartel’s Caribbean shows. Spice and Ishawna also appeared during the sold-out show in Georgetown.

Looking ahead, Kartel is set to perform at the One Caribbean Music Festival in Trinidad. However, following in the footsteps of Guyana’s Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), Trinidadian officials have moved to block his controversial track Good Like Jesus after receiving complaints from religious groups. Authorities say they will exercise discretion to prevent Kartel from performing the song within their jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, Alkaline is set to hit the stage at the Sandz Music Festival in Miami later this evening, continuing the weekend of high-energy performances.

All in all, fans applauded a rare moment of Dancehall unity as Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, and Shaggy reposted Beenie Man’s UBS flyer, sparking conversations among industry insiders about the need to support each other to elevate the genre globally.
