Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has stated that cybersecurity can no longer be regarded as a technical matter as it is now a critical part of the nation’s democratic resilience response.
He was speaking last evening at the opening ceremony for the 48th Regional Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas and the Atlantic Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at Moon Palace Jamaica in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
Dr. Holness reiterated that misinformation and disinformation are threats to Jamaica’s democracy.
The Prime Minister said responding to this issue means ensuring that parliamentary systems, communications and data are secured.
Describing misinformation and disinformation as an epidemic, Dr. Holness noted that it can no longer be ignored as it breaches public trust.
