CWI and CANOC delegation returns from Lima after successful talks on cricket’s inclusion in 2027 Pan American Games
A high-level delegation, led by Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow and Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) President Keith Joseph, has returned to the Caribbean following an official visit to Lima, Peru, aimed at promoting international collaboration and discussing the potential inclusion of cricket in the 2027 Pan American Games.
The visit, which took place from February 21–23, 2025, was centered on strengthening partnerships between the Caribbean and South America, with a particular focus on advancing cricket in the region. A key highlight of the discussions was exploring the pathways to include cricket in the upcoming Pan Am Games, slated for 2027, and ensuring that the necessary collaboration, investment, and strategic planning are in place.
The delegation, which also included Renzo Manyari Velazco, President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, and Mohan Vaswani, Vice President of Cricket Peru, delved into several important topics. These included advancing cricket development in Peru, fostering collaborative training programs, and establishing exchange initiatives aimed at enhancing the sport’s visibility and participation across South America.
“As part of CWI’s strategic plan for 2024–2027, expanding our market and accessing new developmental opportunities are critical priorities. Peru presents excellent prospects, and both parties stand to benefit from collaboration,” said Dr. Shallow.
The delegation also explored strategies for developing the necessary infrastructure to support cricket’s growth in South America, ensuring that the sport is well-prepared for its potential inclusion in the Pan American Games. Discussions emphasized the importance of investing in grassroots initiatives and creating sustainable programs to develop cricket talent at all levels.
Dr. Shallow expressed optimism about the future of cricket in the region, particularly as the sport sets its sights on inclusion not only for the Pan Am Games but also as a stepping stone toward the 2028 Olympic Games. “With the Pan Am Games on the horizon, we are enthusiastic about cricket’s inclusion. CWI is fully committed and prepared to play a leading role in bringing this vision to life—not just for the Pan Am Games but as a foundational step toward cricket’s future in the Olympics,” he added.
