Court of Appeal building closed to public for rest of week following fire that caused some minor damage

The Court of Appeal building has been closed to the public for the rest of the week, following a fire that caused damage to the facility.

The Court Administration Division, confirmed the incident in a release, advising the public, and all relevant stakeholders that the closure takes effect immediately.

It said a comprehensive assessment of the damage is currently underway, however, preliminary findings indicate that the fire did not result in extensive structural damage.

According to Director of Client Services, Communication and Information, Kadiesh Jarrett Fletcher, the records of the court were not affected by the fire and all remain intact.

She added that hearings and filings will be temporarily redirected.

At the time of the incident, only two matters were scheduled for hearing.

Both have since been relocated.

Members of the public are being urged to be patient as the division works with the relevant agencies to restore the facility to full operational capacity.
