Correctional officers at Horizon Adult Remand Centre resume duties
Correctional officers at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Kingston have resumed normal duties.
This, after they took industrial action earlier on Thursday to highlight their discontent with government over unresolved wage issues.
A statement from the Department of Correctional Services, (DCS), said the officers began their strike on Thursday morning, with many of them not showing up for the 7:30 shift.
This resulted in disruptions to visitor services and the transportation of inmates scheduled for court appearances.
The officers then resumed their duties at approximately 1:15 p.m.
The DCS said it will conduct investigations in accordance with the relevant regulations.
Its not clear what transpired between Thursday morning and afternoon, to cause the officer to resume duties, or if concerns pertaining to the ongoing salary negotiations, have been addressed.
Attempts to get details from Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Corrections, Arlington Turner, proved futile.
