Correctional Officers agree to Gov’t’s compensation offer
Unions representing correctional officers have indicated their intent to formally sign an agreement with the Government next week, signalling their acceptance of the new compensation package.
This is in the wake of yesterday’s meeting with the Ministries of Finance and National Security.
The meeting followed a strike by correctional officers at the Horizon Remand Centre in Kingston earlier this month, over unresolved wage issues.
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke said he is pleased that the unions have agreed to accept the new compensation rates.
In the meantime, Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Corrections, Arlington Turner told IRIE FM News that the unions decided to accept the Government’s offer after several underlying issues were addressed.
He said discussions will continue on the outstanding matters, even as the officers agree to accept the new compensation rates.
