Cornwall Court/Green Pond bridge in St. James, which was damaged by fire, re-opens

The bridge which links Cornwall Court, Green Pond, Valley Heights, and other nearby communities in St. James, was re-opened today.

The bridge was destroyed in early July when fire was set to the plastic culvert.

It was rebuilt by the St. James Municipal Corporation, which had given a commitment to have the roadway re-opened ahead of the 2024/25 academic year. It cost approximately $13 million.

Speaking at the re-opening ceremony, Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon, noted that the response to the bridge was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl but he is happy that the corporation fulfilled its promise.

He said the new bridge will be more resilient and features a new drainage system.

The re-opening of the bridge was met with approval by motorists and residents who either attended the event or passed through the area during the short ceremony.
