Consumer confidence falls while business confidence improves

By Sugar Ray Thomas

Consumer confidence fell by 2.3% over the second quarter of 2026 while business confidence showed a modest improvement up by 2.6%.

Executive Chairman of Market Research Services, Don Anderson made the disclosure while presenting the confidence indices for the second quarter of 2026 yesterday.

Just over 610 people were surveyed while 116 business owners were interviewed.

Mr. Anderson said various views influenced the fall in consumer confidence.

These include a less positive view towards current business conditions and job situations.

He said 53% of consumers are expecting their personal financial situation to get better despite their negative perception towards the performance of businesses.

Mr. Anderson said individuals are confident that their businesses are recovering from Hurricane Melissa despite high energy costs  and other factors.

He said business operators reported that they feel now is a good time to invest.
