Collingwood Magpies with Shimona Nelson and Jodi-Ward pulls out Suncorp Netball league
(Shimona Nelson of Colingwood Magpies speaks with the media after a game in the Suncorp Super Netball League)
A war of words has erupted between Netball Australia and Collingwood Magpies……..the team Jamaican netballers Shimona Nelson and Jodi-Ann Ward.
This following the shock decision by the Collingwood franchise to withdraw from the Suncorp Super Netball league.
The bombshell news comes despite the magpies having four games remaining in the ongoing campaign and means both Nelson and Ward will be in the hunt for a new team at the end of the season.
The Magpies, heading into round 11, are second from bottom on 8 points having lost 8 of 10 games to date.
Nelson who joined in 2019 is 3rd this season in scoring and offensive rebounds with 426 and 30 respectively while Ward who made her Collingwood debut in 2020 leads the league in intercepts with 30.
Netball Australia has since issued a statement promising to support players and staff impacted by the move and also emphasized discussions were already underway with potential new franchises.
