Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie has confirmed that there are 43 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed spaces available island-wide. 

This, in response to calls from the Opposition for the government to state the exact number of ICU spaces available in the country. 

Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Alfred Dawes had criticized the government for not having enough ICU spaces to cater for the country’s large population. 

In response, the CMO noted that there are more than 40 ICU spaces available. 

The CMO has previously indicated that ICU spaces are largely dependent on available staffing to man these areas.
