Clean-up of oil spill on North Coast Highway completed
The authorities have completed the clean-up of a major oil spill along the North Coast Highway, restoring normalcy to the thoroughfare.
The spill between Coopers Pen main road in Trelawny and the Discovery Bay main road in St. Ann, occurred early Monday morning.
The National Works Agency (NWA), the Trelawny Municipal Corporation, and the Jamaica Fire Brigade worked several hours between yesterday and this morning to have the affected area, which spanned some 50 kilometres, cleaned.
Sand was used to mop up the oil, after which the road surface was washed.
In an update this afternoon, head of the Trelawny police, Superintendent Winston Milton confirmed that the road is back to a satisfactory standard.
He added that investigations are still underway to determine the driver and the vehicle responsible for the oil spill.
