Clean-up activities underway at Leeds Primary and Infant in St. Elizabeth following Sunday’s fire
Parents, teachers, representatives of the Education Ministry and residents rallied at the Leeds Primary and Infant School in St. Elizabeth this morning to clear debris resulting from Sunday’s fire.
The school, which reportedly suffered up to $50 million in damage is now without electricity, a principal office, a staff room, a classroom and a library.
Principal Christine Dawkins-Beadle told IRIE FM News that grade six students who are preparing for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) Examinations next week are being accommodated at the institution’s infant department.
Mrs. Dawkins-Beadle said several of the students have expressed sadness at the damage to their school.
She said efforts are being implemented to comfort them.
She also noted that with the assistance of parents and other stakeholders, it is hoped that regular operations will resume by next Monday.
