Classes at Leeds Primary and Infant to resume for all students this morning following March 9 fire
Classes at the Leeds Primary and Infant School in St. Elizabeth will resume for all students this morning.
The Institution’s primary department was wrecked by fire on Sunday, March 9, and since then, cleaning-up activities have been ongoing.
As a result, grade six students were accommodated at the school’s infant department, while others at the primary level were engaged through the online learning modality.
The institution, which reportedly suffered up to 50 million dollars in damage is now without electricity, a principal office, a staff room, a classroom and a library.
However, in an update yesterday, Principal Christine Dawkins-Beadle told IRIE FM News that though more repair works are needed, the institution will accommodate all students today.
Mrs. Dawkins-Beadle explained that it is better to have students engaged in the face-to-face learning modality, rather than them being at home.
She said this is especially important for the grade six students who are still preparing for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations this week.
She added that the school had been provided with a generator and solar lights.
