Children’s Advocate cites recent tragedies as signal for implementing more child safety measures

Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon-Harrison says the recent tragedies involving children signal that additional measures are needed to keep them safe.

In the past week, three children died in separate tragic incidents in Hanover and Kingston.

They are 13-year-old Twaine Skyers, 18-year-old Jada Pollard and 2 year old Tajaun Jackson.

Twaine is suspected to have committed suicide at his home in Lilliput St. James last Thursday.

Yesterday morning, Jada was shot and killed during a suspected burglary at her home in St. Andrew.

Last evening, baby Tajaun was shot and killed during a drive by incident along Grenmeade Road in Kingston.

Speaking to Irie F M News this afternoon, Mrs. Gordon-Harrison said the incidents have highlighted the need for the country to ask what can be done differently to keep children safe.

She said the OCA and other organizations must recommit to ending these tragic incidents against children.

She further stated that the country must be relentless in finding a solution.
