Chief Justice Bryan Sykes welcomes announcement that government’s procurement processes will be reformed

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes has welcomed an announcement from Prime Minister Andrew Holness that he will be reforming the government’s procurement processes.

Mr. Holness made the announcement in his new year’s message.

Speaking at the swearing-in of judges for the Michaelmas term, yesterday Justice Sykes said the government’s procurement model is not working.

He said the current process has become a hindrance to development.

Justice Sykes noted further inefficiencies with the procurement process, citing issues with the purchasing of air conditioning units for the Court of Appeal.

He said a supplier was disqualified despite having the units on the island, because they were not a grade 1 or 2 provider.
