Checks to be done to ensure schools adhere to sports equipment safety standards after student dies in goal post incident
Teams from the Education Ministry will be conducting visits to the island’s schools to ensure that standards for safety and performance of sports equipment are being adhered to.
This following the death of grade 8 student Rashad Richards.
Richards died after a goal post fell on him at Campion College in St. Andrew yesterday.
Speaking during this morning’s Post Cabinet press briefing, Former Education Minister Fayval Williams again expressed condolences to Rashad’s relatives, loved ones and the school community.
She noted that grief counselling sessions are underway at the institution.
Meantime, she stressed that there are set standards regarding the use of goal posts and that schools will be reminded of these.
Member of Parliament for South East St. Andrew, Julian Robinson has also expressed his condolences to Rashad Richards’ family.
