Checks being conducted to determine if more Cuban nationals landed in Jamaica illegally

The St. James police say checks are being conducted to determine if additional Cuban nationals have landed in Jamaica illegally.

This follows the arrival of six nationals from the neighbouring Caribbean territory on Sunday.

The group of four men and two women reportedly arrived by boat at Harbour Beach in the parish.

Providing an update to IRIE FM News, Head of the St. James police, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Eron Samuels, says his team has heard reports of the arrival of other Cubans.

Steps are being taken to verify those claims.

SSP Samuels says the six Cuban nationals have been processed by the police.

The women were taken to a location in Cambridge while the men were taken to a facility in Montego Bay.

SSP Samuels notes that the relevant agencies have been contacted, and his team is awaiting instructions on the next steps.
