CHEC employees working on Montego Bay Perimeter Road seeking union representation amidst wage concern
Amidst concerns over wages and other issues, employees working on the Montego Bay Perimeter Road are seeking union representation.
The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) has served a representation rights claim on the management of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Limited on the employees’ behalf.
The Union’s claim was served by senior organizer at UCASE, Paul Works.
Mr. Works told IRIE FM news that CHEC’s management has been informed that the vast majority of the workers are signed members of the union.
He said the move to have the workers unionized follows concerns over matters, including but not limited to wages, alleged non-issuance of pay slips, non-payment of overtime monies and a reported non-provision of drinking water on work sites.
Meanwhile, UCASE President, Vincent Morrison says he hopes CHEC will grant the union recognition by consent.
