Chang urges citizens to hand over illegal guns
With the gun amnesty set to end on Saturday at midnight, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang is appealing to residents to hand over their illegal weapons.
The gun amnesty which allows persons to turn over illegal firearms without being charged began on November 5.
In a social media post by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Dr. Chang pleaded with residents to turn in the illegal weapons, so they are not charged under the new firearms act.
The new firearms act will see convicted people being given no less than 15 years in prison for a firearm charge.
Dr. Chang reported earlier this week that just over 20 firearms had been brought in under the amnesty.
