Chang says government to accommodate orphans and World Bank workers from Haiti
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says government has agreed to accommodate some Haitians, who were displaced due to the ongoing crisis in that country.
His comment follows reports of unrest in the neighboring island, including the escape of thousands of inmates from a prison.
Speaking at Thursday’s Standing Finance Committee meeting, Dr. Chang said among the Haitians to be allowed in, are orphans and workers from the World Bank.
Dr. Chang however, pointed out that while the government has ramped up security of Jamaica’s borders, to prevent an influx of illegal migrants, the government’s stance can change as the situation unfolds.
He reiterated that Jamaica through Caricom is taking an active and leading role in attempts to restore stability in Haiti.
