The Jamaica Labour Party, (JLP) has indicated that Councillor for the Chancery Hall Division, Duane Smith, will replace Dr. Nigel Clarke as the party’s candidate for St. Andrew North Western.

This, following the announcement that Dr. Clarke will be appointed Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, effective October 31 this year.

In a statement, the JLP promised a smooth transition of Dr. Clarke’s responsibilities as Member of Parliament. 

It noted that his replacement, Mr. Smith is a three term councillor.

The party congratulated Dr. Clarke on the appointment while noting that no citizen of Jamaica, the Caribbean or Central America has served at this level in the IMF before.

It said Dr. Clarke’s appointment is a huge net gain for Jamaica and the Caribbean.
