Central Bank on track to meeting June timeline for issuance of Jamaica’s new banknotes
The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) says it is on track to meet the estimated June 2023 completion timeline for the issuance of the country’s new banknotes.
Providing an update during a press conference this morning (May 22), BOJ’s Deputy Governor, Natalie Haynes said the Central Bank should begin issuing the new currency by the middle of next month.
She noted, however, that there will only be a partial issuance of the banknotes, as not all Automated Teller Machines are retrofitted to accept them.
She also noted that the public campaign on the banknotes has been going well.
The public education campaign will include visits to several communities across the island.
