There was an 8% average monthly decline in cement production from January to August this year.

Minister of Industry and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill told the Senate on Friday that the decline was partially attributed to the scheduled maintenance carried out by the nation’s sole cement manufacturer. 

He noted that Caribbean Cement Company Limited’s scheduled maintenance occurred between August 12 and September 3. 

The Minister further noted that in addition to the decline in production, total domestic sales decreased during the January/August period. 

Meanwhile, Senator Hill is appealing to cement importers to use the quotas issued by his Ministry to address the shortfall in the industry.
