Under the Shelter Recovery Programme (SRP) persons whose homes were damaged by hurricane Melissa, could receive up to $500,000 to assist with rebuilding. 

The government will be rolling out the Building Resilience and Inspiring Development through a Guided Experience (BRIDGE) initiative to support recovery efforts in communities impacted severely by hurricane Melissa. BRIDGE will equip 200 unemployed individuals ages 18 to 25 from St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, St. James and Hanover with practical construction skills through guided work experience on active reconstruction sites.

STATIN is reporting that the inflation rate for December 2025 increased to 4.5%. STATIN said this was influenced mainly by the point-to-point inflation rate for 3 divisions, to include food, electricity and accommodation services.

A female student was attacked and sexually assaulted after exiting a taxi and proceeding onto the campus. Minister of Education Dr. Dana Morris Dixon said based on reactions from the student union, the improved security measures are welcomed, as students feel safer.

Come February 1, the rural school bus system will go cash less and students must have a transportation card in order to use the service. Minister of Transport Daryl Vaz urged parents and children, who have not yet done so, to sign up for the card.
