Mr. Crawford made the disclosure today, while making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representative. According to Crawford, the charter of fundamental rights and freedoms guarantees every child the right to publicly funded tuition at the pre-primary and primary levels, noting this is not aspirational, it is binding.

JTA President Mark Malabver gave the update. The matter has been a long-standing issue for teachers, contributing to growing unrest within the sector.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In a statement, the Authority said while it has not yet independently verified the authenticity of the video, the matter is being treated seriously and has been referred to the relevant teams for review and investigation.

As work begins to digitise the nation's judicial system, Chief Justice Bryan Sykes is hoping that the project will not be an example of implemented information and communication technology systems that do not work.  The Integrated Electronic Case Management System is being implemented in partnership with the Rwanda Corporation Initiative with support from Global Affairs Canada and the United Nations Development Programme in Jamaica.

The representatives of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) are locked in a meeting with the Finance Ministry as salary negotiations continue. The meeting is taking place at the ministry's office in Downtown Kingston.
