The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says 17 offenders received a combined total of over 250 years in custodial sentences  for firearm offences during the first quarter of this year. According to the JCF it has intensified operations against illegal firearms saying it has received strong validation from the judicial system.

The Jamaican economy is expected to further contract by an estimated 3 to 4% in the April to June quarter relative to the same period last year.  This after the economy contracted by an estimated 5.9% during the January to March 2026 quarter when compared to the same period in 2025.
