Caribbean reaps economic benefits of hosting the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup
The Caribbean has experienced a significant economic boost following its hosting of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with a remarkable U.S. one billion dollars added to the region’s economy. This positive outcome was revealed by Cricket West Indies (CWI) President, Dr. Kishore Shallow, who shared the results of an independent economic assessment conducted by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Dr. Shallow highlighted that the tournament, which was held across various Caribbean nations, not only brought substantial immediate financial gains but also positively impacted the region’s future tourism prospects.
Dr. Shallow also emphasized that the tournament’s economic impact went beyond just the immediate revenue generated from ticket sales, merchandise, and broadcasting rights. According to the St. Vincent native, the event also created jobs, stimulated local businesses, and left a lasting legacy for the Caribbean, strengthening the region’s reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events.
The tournament, which was filled with thrilling cricket action, culminated in a dramatic final at Kensington Oval in Barbados, where India emerged victorious, defeating South Africa by just 7 runs.
