Captain Hayley Mathews steers West Indies ‘Ship’ to victory
A desire to lead from the front while setting an example were the views expressed by West Indies Women captain Hayley Mathews following her stand out all-round performance that saw the Windies beat Pakistan by 7 wickets in Sunday’s second T20 international to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Mathews chalked up a top-score of 58 off 43 deliveries, which included 10 fours, to set the platform for the visitors who in their chase of a target of 123 went on to make 124 for 3 in 18.2 overs.
Earlier Pakistan Women electing bat were restricted to 121 for 7 despite a resolute 55 from 47 balls by Muneeba Ali.
A masterful final over by Matthews saw three wickets fall and just five runs scored as Pakistan’s effort ended tamely as the Barbadian all-rounder ended with 3 for 25.
West Indies Women following Sunday’s result remain undefeated on the current tour of Pakistan after earlier sweeping the 3-match One Day International series.
The third of five T20Is is on April 30 in Karachi, with a win for West Indies guaranteeing a series victory.
