By-election in NE St. Ann will possibly cost government $30M
It will possibly cost the government about $30 million to hold the upcoming by-election for North East St. Ann.
The by-election was called following the resignation of Marsha Smith as Member of Parliament.
Nomination day is next Wednesday September 11, while election day is set for September 30.
Director of Elections, Glasspole Brown, told IRIE FM News that the number of persons nominated will determine if the election goes ahead.
This as the People’s National Party says it will not be contesting the seat and it’s not yet known if an independent candidate will run.
He said if only one candidate is nominated and there is no need for the election, the cost for the exercise will be reduced.
