Bush fire results in damage to sections of Mystic Ridge hotel in St. Ann
Fire damaged sections of the Mystic Ridge Hotel in St. Ann yesterday.
There was no report of injury.
Reports from the Jamaica Fire Brigade are that at approximately 3:45 P.M., the Ocho Rios Fire Department received a report of a bush near the hotel.
It’s reported that when firefighters arrived on the scene they discovered that the fire had spread from nearby bushes to parts of the hotel.
Units from the St. Ann’s Bay Fire Department also responded to the blaze.
Acting Commissioner of the Brigade Kevin Haughton said the fire affected the roof of the restaurant, two administrative offices, and the lobby area of the hotel.
He said with the increased risk of bushfires during the dry season, he is urging the public to remain vigilant, clear dry vegetation around homes and buildings, avoid open burning without a permit and report any sign of fire immediately.
He said community awareness and quick action are vital in preventing the rapid spread of bush fires.
