Bus conductor who allegedly assaulted female students on bus now in police custody
The bus conductor who allegedly assaulted two female students on a public passenger bus is now in police custody.
The man surrendered to the Half Way Tree Police Station yesterday, following contact by law enforcement.
He was escorted to the Kingston Central Police Station where he was handed over to investigators.
A statement from the Constabulary Force said preliminary inquiries indicate that the conductor is the person seen in a viral social media video, depicting an altercation involving the students of a Corporate Area high school.
Investigators are continuing the probe into the matter and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
The police said it treats incidents of violence particularly those involving minors with the utmost seriousness.
Members of the public are encouraged to utilise lawful channels to resolve disputes and to cooperate with the police as investigations proceed.
The arrest of the bus conductor yesterday comes in the wake of an indication by the Transport Authority that it has launched a probe into the incident.
The authority said the matter is being treated seriously and has been referred to the relevant teams for review and investigation.
