Bunny Shaw back in Reggae Girlz Squad for World Cup Qualifier

Star striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been named in Jamaica’s national women’s team for Saturday’s World Cup qualifying match against Dominica in Saint Lucia. The confirmation came from Reggae Girlz head coach Hubert Busby during a virtual press conference on Monday morning.

Shaw, 28, returns to the squad after last featuring in back-to-back friendlies against South Africa in late November and December of 2024. The Manchester City forward has been one of the standout performers in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season, scoring a league-best six goals in nine matches and providing two assists for City, who sit atop the table on 24 points — three clear of second-place Chelsea.

Her absence from recent Jamaican squads was attributed to injury-related recovery and subsequent discussions between Busby, Shaw, and Manchester City regarding workload and player management.

Match & Qualification Outlook

Jamaica faces Dominica on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Jamaica time at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium. The Girlz will then play away to Nicaragua on March 2, 2026, before hosting Antigua & Barbuda and Guyana on April 10 and 18 respectively.

The group winner will progress to the 2026 Concacaf Women’s Championship in November, which will be played in a single-elimination format featuring quarter-finals, play-ins for quarter-final losers, semi-finals, the third-place playoff and the final.

Crucially, four teams from that tournament will earn automatic qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Two additional nations will move into the inter-confederation playoffs for a final route to the global show-piece. Meanwhile, two teams will also secure places in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
