Buff Bay Health Centre offering more services in improved facility

The new Buff Bay District Health Centre in Portland is providing some services that had previously been offered at hospitals.

This as the centre has transitioned from a type 4 facility into to a modern state of the art one, a move that almost restores its former status as a community hospital.

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said the new services being offered include an asthma bay, a trauma centre, and physiotherapy.

The reconstruction and equipping of the centre were funded by the National Health Fund and North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA).

The centre was opened officially on Thursday, and will serve about 25,000 residents.

Over $300 m was invested in the project, which falls under the ministry’s primary healthcare renewal programme.

Dr. Tufton pointed out that under the programme, other health centres will see similar upgrades and expansion of services offered.
