Brother and sister from St. Mary charged after alleged attempt to steal goats
A brother and sister from St. Mary have been slapped with several charges after allegedly attempting to steal goats from a premises in the Sandside community.
Charged with larceny of cattle, possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, using a firearm to commit a felony, and assault at common law, are 41-year-old Kwamen Adams of Sandside, and his sister, 44-year-old farmer Kedela Adams of Albany, in the parish.
Reports are that about 7:10 PM on February 27, a man was approaching his house when he saw an unknown vehicle parked in proximity to his goats.
He approached the vehicle and saw Kwamen and two other men removing the goats from where he had tied them.
The man called out to them, and one of the men allegedly pulled a firearm and pointed it at him.
The man pulled his firearm and opened gunfire in their direction.
Kwamen reportedly ran to the car, while his accomplices escaped in nearby bushes.
The police were summoned and when the occupants were ordered from the vehicle, and the siblings exited.
A search was conducted, during which an imitation firearm was reportedly found in the woman’s handbag.
Both siblings were arrested and charged. They are to appear in the St. Mary Parish Court on Thursday, March 7.
Their accomplices are still at large.
