Broadcasting Commission head calls for dialogue among generations to fix issues affecting music
Executive Director of the Broadcasting Commission Cordel Green, is calling for intergenerational dialogue to tackle the pressing issue of harmful content dissemination.
Speaking on “The Cutting Edge” with Mutabaruka recently Mr Green emphasized the need for collective understanding, acknowledging that differing opinions on what constitutes “good” or “bad” music are inevitable.
Mr Green’s concerns are rooted in the commission’s 2022 directive, which banned the transmission of content promoting or glorifying illegal activities, including scamming, substance abuse, and gun violence. This directive applies to all free-to-air media outlets.
Key aspects of the ban include: Audio or video recordings, songs, or speeches that promote or glorify illegal activities. Any edited content that directly or indirectly promotes illegal activities, including live editing, original edits, and the use of euphemistic language.
