British National fined $1.2M for cocaine related charges

A British national who was allegedly caught with 3 and a half pounds of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport last Tuesday was fined $1.2 million for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

25-year-old Health Care Assistant Faina Rwenhamo, appeared before the St. James Parish Court last Wednesday where she pleaded guilty to the charges.

Reports are that during a security check, officers discovered cocaine concealed within 2 wooden craft items with false compartments in the woman’s suitcases.

She was checking in to board a flight to Manchester, England, at the time of her arrest.

The British national was fined $400,000 or thirty months imprisonment for Possession of Cocaine, $400,000 or 30 months imprisonment for Dealing in Cocaine, and another $400,000 or 30 months imprisonment for Attempting to Export Cocaine.

A charge of Conspiracy was dismissed as no evidence was offered.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, on Tuesday, June 16 officers seized over $5,000,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act, following intensive investigation into illicit activities in St. Mary.

Speaking on the incidents, Head of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division Superintendent Sam Blake noted that police continue to enforce the law rigorously.
