Legendary former West Indies batsman Brian Lara has been appointed as head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2023 Indian Premier League season.

The move sees Lara replacing Tom Moody who between 2013 and 2019 led the team to 5 playoff appearances and the title in 2016.

It is learned that Moody and Sunrisers came to a mutual agreement to part ways.

Lara, who will be undertaking his first assignment as head coach of a t20 team, was part of the Sunrisers management last season as a strategic advisor and batting coach.

The 2022 Indian Premier League season concluded in may with the Gujarat Titans lifting the title.

The Sunrisers finished third from bottom having won just 6 of their 14 games
