Botswana could in trouble with World Athletics after Nijel Amos photo goes viral
Botswana could face the wrath of world athletics following the sighting of their suspended athlete Nijel Amos in a group photograph during the launch of a marathon last week.
Amos was photographed alongside three Botswana sporting personalities including 2011 world championship gold medalist Amantle Montsho.
An unnamed source has raised concerns regarding Amos’s association with the sport throughout his suspension, as per world athletics regulations.
Initially handed a four-year suspension by world athletics, Amos saw this period reduced to three years after admitting his culpability.
The source stressed that the Botswana Athletics association’s (baa) should take responsibility to ensure strict adherence to the ban’s stipulations.
Amos, the joint-third-fastest 800m runner in history, was banned three years for doping.
The case stemmed to last June, when he tested positive for gw1516, an experimental drug which can modify the body’s metabolism but has been considered too dangerous for human use.
