Celebrations are running high today among supporters of Jamaica College and Edwin Allen High School following their commanding victories at Saturday’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

Jamaica College (JC), under the guidance of coaches Duane Johnson, Corey Bennett, and Olympian Bert Cameron, secured the boys’ title—its 23rd overall and first since 2021.

The team amassed an impressive 345 points to defeat defending champions Kingston College (KC), who finished second with 282 points, while Calabar High placed third with 169.33 points.

On the girls’ side, Edwin Allen High School, led by head coach Michael Dyke and supported by coaches Raymond Graham, Kedene Geddes, and Warren Clarke, captured their 11th title. They tallied 335.5 points to dethrone Hydel High, which finished second with 259.5 points.

Holmwood Technical secured third place with 167 points, while Corporate Area champions Immaculate Conception High made history by finishing fourth with 110 points. St Jago High rounded out the top five with 91 points.

The five-day championship saw at least 12 records broken. Among the standout performances was Shanoya Douglas, who clocked 22.36 seconds to win the Class One girls’ 200 metres.

Edwin Allen’s Addison James also delivered a record-breaking performance, throwing 70.30 metres to shatter the boys’ Open javelin record of 64.08 metres.

Kingston College’s Jason Pitter etched his name in the record books by winning the Class Two boys’ 400 metres in 45.76 seconds, surpassing Christopher Taylor’s previous mark of 46.33 seconds.

Meanwhile, Marquies Page of St Jago set a new record in the semi-finals of the Class Two boys’ 110-metre hurdles, clocking 12.98 seconds.
