Blakk Rasta credits Mutabaruka as reggae influence
Mutabaruka inspired my journey into Reggae music, that’s the word from Ghanaian reggae singer Blakk Rasta as he reflects on his journey.
Speaking on the Africa Forum with Kabu last Sunday, the singer revealed the astonishing origins of his musical career. The acclaimed singer-songwriter confessed that he never knew he could sing until he discovered a body of work from Jamaican dub poet Mutabaruka. Blakk Rasta said the moment sparked a creative frenzy, prompting him to put pen to paper and start writing.
Blakk Rasta said his artistic evolution didn’t stop at reggae. Seeking to infuse his African heritage into the genre, he pioneered the innovative sound of Kujoko by seamlessly blending traditional African instruments with reggae beats.
Blakk Rasta is currently in Jamaica to collaborate with legendary artist George Nooks on an upcoming music video. He also plans on shooting a video with Reggae Artiste Anthony B.
