BITU and Labour Ministry to meet today to address issues affecting Decameron Resort staff

Representatives of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, BITU and the Ministry of Labour are to meet this afternoon to address wage and other employment related issues affecting workers at the Decameron Ramada Resort in St. Ann.

The union and ministry met with representatives from the resort last Thursday and scheduled another meeting for today.

Speaking to Irie FM News last evening, Vice President of the BITU Rudolph Thomas said today’s meeting will commence at 3 p.m at the Labour Ministry’s Kingston office.

He expressed hope that the meeting will be fruitful.

There has been unrest in the tourism sector in recent weeks, with workers at the Royalton Hotel in Negril Westmoreland protesting over wage concerns last month.

The Ministries of Tourism and Labour intervened, which saw the implementation of some measures to address the workers’ concerns.

And earlier this week, workers of Secrets and Breathless Resorts in St. James also staged a protest over wage concerns.

Yesterday, the management and staff of those resorts agreed to engage in a series of meetings over the next few weeks to determine a new wage package.
