Biomedical Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited has sought to assure its clients that it is doing everything possible to protect their data and maintain their trust.
This, following an unauthorized access incident in November last year.
Biomedical confirmed the cybersecurity breach in a statement yesterday.
It noted that the incident resulted from the unauthorized access of its network and systems through an external vendor.
It said it is still investigating the extent of the breach, and has been informing its stakeholders including doctors and patients.
According to Biomedical, at the time the breach was discovered, it immediately took the necessary steps to prevent further unauthorized access, hired a certified cyber-security and forensic investigator and a team of cyber-security specialists to address the issue.
All the relevant government and law-enforcing stakeholders were also promptly advised.
Biomedical said it has selected a new managed services provider, implemented enhanced security measures, upgraded its entire infrastructure, deployed a security information and event management system as well as installed intrusion detection systems among other actions.
